Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Page Supervisor, pages are responsible for sorting and shelving books according to their categorization and assisting library staff with various duties as assigned.
The incumbent will demonstrate a commitment to the TLCPL’s mission and values including being welcoming, innovative, objective, accountable and collaborative.
Primary Responsibilities
Organizes carts based on shelving rules and shelves materials according to established standards.
Ensures items are in the correct section and in the correct order.
Prioritizes workload with an emphasis on shelving carts and accuracy.
Assists with opening and closing duties; includes assisting in keeping the agency neat and orderly.
Ability to interact pleasantly with the patrons of all ages from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
Completes shelf reading assignments; corrects shelving errors, straightens shelves and shifts materials for easier access.
Assists in merchandising the collection through displays and face-outs.
Assist customers in directional questions, referring in-depth questions to appropriate library staff.
Keeps informed of library policies and procedures and participates in appropriate number of training classes to expand and enhance job skills.
Actively supports diversity, equity, and inclusion; promotes a culture where all staff and customers belong.
May be required to perform other duties that are necessary for the efficient operation of the agency.
May be assigned to rotate to other library facilities to perform job duties and assignments.
Knowledge/Skills
Ability to sort accurately by alphabetical, numerical, chronological, Dewey Decimal order or departmental classification/shelving schemes.
Ability to work independently in an efficient manner to complete assigned tasks.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with others, including the public.
Ability to learn and perform repetitive tasks and follow written and oral instructions.
Dependability and ability to maintain a regular work schedule.
Training/Experience/Education
High School Diploma or GED for adult applicants.
At least sixteen years of age at the start of employment; work permit required if under the age of eighteen.
Valid driver’s license or transportation as needed.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Position requires the ability to push and pull library book trucks weighing 100- 300 lbs.
Position requires lifting 25 lbs.
on an occasional basis.
Position requires lifting 10 lbs.
on a regular basis.
Must be able to turn, balance, push, handle, reach, stoop, and stand for extended periods of time.
90% of time is spent standing/walking.
BCI/FBI Criminal Background Record Clearance and MVR history required.
A drug screen/medical examination to be completed prior to start date.
