Summary
The School of Applied Human Development (formerly the School of Family and Consumer Sciences) invites applications for a full-time (9-month contract), tenure-track, Assistant Professor in the Human Development and Family Science Program, with a start date of August 2024.
Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) is a student-centered, strengths-based, inclusive, and trauma-informed program that prepares students for careers doing the public good in diverse professional settings.
We study the dynamics of family relationships and how our environments shape those relationships.
Students learn how to support the healthy development of children and individuals across their lifespans, as well as engage with families through outreach, prevention, and education.
The School of Applied Human Development a multidisciplinary school within the College of Education and Human Development that is dedicated to communicating, advancing, and applying knowledge that fosters the well-being of individuals and families.
There are approximately 800 undergraduate majors and minors in the undergraduate programs of Exercise Science, Fashion Merchandising and Product Development, Human Development and Family Science, Interior Design, Sport Management, and Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management; and graduate programs in Athletic Training and Human Movement and Sport.
The school is supported by approximately thirty-seven full-time faculty and staff.
The College of Education and Human Development, BGSU’s founding college, is the home to a dynamic and disciplinary diverse group of graduate and undergraduate programs, housed across three academic units: the School of Applied Human Development; the School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership, and Foundations; and the School of Inclusive Teacher Education.

Essential Functions Specific Responsibilities: • Undergraduate teaching of three (3) undergraduate courses per semester for a total of six (6) for the academic year.
The projected course load for this position primarily supports trauma informed and inclusion framework through the following courses: o HDFS 2020: Contemporary Marriages and Families: Offered as required pre-requisite for HDFS majors, HDFS minor, and as a BG-P social and behavioral sciences course to the campus community.
o HDFS 3000-4000 level family courses in a specialty family science area, internal family dynamics, and relationship focused.
• Develop/sustain research program including publications and presentations.
• Full range of university and professional service.
Minimum Qualifications • Earned doctorate in human development, family science, or closely related field.
Candidates who are ABD at time of application may be considered.
Degree must be conferred prior to appointment in August 2024.
• Evidence of high-quality university teaching.
• Evidence of scholarly activities including research, publications, presentations within family science.
