Summary Bowling Green State University (BGSU) invites applications for a Principal Cataloger and Metadata Librarian with faculty rank of Assistant Practitioner Professor.
This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Special Collections (SC) within the University Libraries (UL) and is a full time, twelve month renewable, non-tenure track qualified faculty rank appointment.
The SC Department is looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented individual to serve as Principal Cataloger and Metadata Librarian.
This position will perform cataloging for main stacks and Special Collections print and electronic materials and serve as the lead for descriptive practices to shape discovery of the UL collections.

Information about Program and College Bowling Green State University Libraries is a founding and active member of OhioLINK, a consortium of 117 libraries at 88 institutions plus the State Library of Ohio.
The University Libraries (UL) comprises general collections (housed within the William T.
Jerome Library) in social sciences, humanities, and sciences; government documents; the Curriculum Resource Center; and is home to three nationally prominent special collections: the Browne Popular Culture Library, the Center for Archival Collections, which includes the Historical Collections of the Great Lakes, and the Music Library and Bill Schurk Sound Archives.
Additionally, the Northwest Ohio Regional Book Depository, which serves BGSU and the University of Toledo, is managed by the University Libraries.
Essential Functions Specific Duties and Responsibilities Librarian Effectiveness (90% Allocation of Effort) • Serve as the UL lead for descriptive practices to shape discovery of the UL print and electronic collections.
• Perform original and complex cataloging for a broad range of formats in SC and UL including print and electronic materials.
• Lead the Cataloging/Metadata Team.
• Contribute to initiatives to optimize description and metadata to expose our holdings to patrons.
• Work with others to prioritize cataloging projects.
• Collaborate with UL-wide units and departments to lead organization-wide efforts to address issues of diversity, inclusion and social justice through cataloging and metadata practices.
• Monitor, communicate and implement local, state, and national cataloging and metadata standards and best practices.
?Serve as the UL OhioLINK representative on cataloging, metadata, and bibliographic maintenance.
• Ability to solve problems independently and collaboratively.
• Supervise and evaluate the classified staff Librarian I position.
• Guide the on-going review of UL cataloging and metadata policies and procedures to ensure proper application of appropriate local, state, and national standards.
• Cultivate and support an environment of exploration, collaboration, and implementation of new approaches to cataloging and management of metadata.
• Apply principles of linked data and work with controlled vocabularies and ontologies.
• Manage UL participation in cooperative metadata endeavors such as NACO, SACO, and Wikidata.
• Other duties as assigned.
Service Responsibilities (10% Allocation of Effort) • Participates in departmental, library and university governance.
• Maintains involvement in professional activities and/or professional library organizations.
Minimum Qualifications • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution to be conferred by position start date • 2-5 years professional cataloging and/or metadata experience • Working knowledge of relevant foundational metadata and technologies including but not limited to: RDA, AACR2, LCSH, MARC21, DACS, Dublin Core, NACO, SACO, Wikidata, etc.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience with OCLC Connexion, authority control, and integrated library systems • Experience with consortial integrated library systems, and discover layer systems • Experience with batch editing tools such as MarcEdit, bulk import/export, etc.
• Evidence of supervisory experience • Evidence of involvement with diversity and equity work in community, organizational, or employment settings • Record of service at the local, state, or national levels Additional Information Application Materials Required - Cover letter - Curriculum vitae - Names and contact information of three professional references Unofficial transcripts of highest degree earned are required for candidates invited for in-person interviews.
