*ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER* We are looking for a self-reflective, analytic, dedicated, and passionate content expert who wants to join a dynamic school team as a teacher and advisor.
This teacher will support in furthering our school’s foundational culture around reading and writing, inspiring young people to see the beauty and boundless potential in the written word and in themselves as learners.
You see a seamless, mutually reinforcing connection between reading and writing.
You are committed to empowering students with the written word to express themselves and their beliefs and support them in utilizing texts to build a nuanced lens through which they see the world.
As a strong candidate for our position, you will… *Have knowledge of or experience in * * unit & lesson planning as well as student-centered and engaging content delivery methods; * adolescent development, developmentally appropriate support structures, and relationship building; * building community and relationships with a diverse group of students in academic and non-academic settings; * designing learning opportunities that meet the varied needs of students with an IEP, 504, or English Learner status * effective and equitable engagement and classroom culture-building strategies, including restorative practices.
*Be able and willing to * * achieve outstanding student achievement results in a short amount of time and commit to the relentless pursuit of increasing student learning.
* communicate and collaborate with colleagues, students, and families; * actively contribute to the school and role-based teams; * serve as an advisor, supporting a small group of students to build relationships and achieve their goals; * hold students consistently accountable to academic and behavioral expectations; * drive instructional decisions through regular use of data and communication; * reflect on instructional practice with a critical lens, challenging bias and assumptions in teaching; * give thoughtful feedback to peers and leadership to help improve program and maximize outcomes; * implement feedback from coach and colleagues in a spirit of continuous improvement; * elevate the belief that all students have strengths and gifts to share as well as growth areas to be honed.
*ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS * *Required:* * A Bachelor’s degree *Highly preferred* * Ohio Teaching License or a current valid out-of-state teaching license or meet highly qualified status according to the Ohio Department of Education for the subjects being taught.
* At least two years of teaching experience * Experience teaching in diverse communities, and in particular working with children from low-income backgrounds, to achieve exceptional results in academics, sports, the arts, community service, etc.
* Bilingualism in Spanish *A note on teacher licensure* * EAST believes that there are many non-traditional qualifications that lead to being an effective educator besides licensure.
Our school will do our best to work with candidates that are not yet licensed to ensure our students have the most qualified teachers.
*Ability to attend staff summer institute* Time for shared vision development and aligning procedures and systems is critical so that our team is equipped to thrive throughout each and every year.
Reporting to Staff Summer Institute starting in early August is required and should be a consideration in your application process.
