Under general supervision, the primary objective of the Security Screener shall be to protect the property and integrity of The Toledo Zoo.
They will effectively carry out security policies that provide protection of visitors, employees, animals and zoo assets.
This position reports to the Director of Security with general oversight by the Security Supervisor.
It is a non-exempt part-time position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Essential Job Functions *Duties will include, but are not limited to the following*
Conducts daily and routine inspection of security screening equipment to ensure property functionality and accuracy
Reports any malfunction, technical issues or equipment failures to a Security supervisor
Responsible for daily set up and tear down of security equipment
Operates security screening equipment (electronic walk-through metal detectors and hand-held wands) at entrance areas and designated checkpoints
Conducts screening of all guests entering Zoo, including bag checks, and secondary screening
Identify potential threats, such as weapons, sharp objects, or other prohibited metal items and reports findings to supervisor
Communicate in a professional manner with guests while providing clear instructions and compliance with screening procedures, and ensuring a positive experience.
Provide assistance to guests, employees and other individuals passing through system while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor.
Work closely with Security personnel, law enforcement or relevant staff to address security concerns or potential threats identified during screening process
Ensure proper and accurate security records that reflect the activities of the shift.
Prepare and submit incident reports
Shall maintain strict adherence to the policies and procedures established by The Toledo Zoo Security Standard Operating Procedures Manual.
Assist ground patrol when requested
Monitor for any criminal activity
Requires flexibility in work scheduling to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
Performs other administrative and other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Must have High School diploma/GED.
Prior security related experience, law enforcement, or military background preferred.
Must be 18 years of age
Valid drivers’ license and the ability to be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier
Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills.
